CBD, what is it?

The Cannabis sativa plant contains over a hundred phytocannabinoids, including the non-psychotomimetic compound cannabidiol (CBD), with various properties and applications. CBD has attracted significant interest due to its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antinecrotic protective effects, as well as displaying a very favorable safety and tolerability profile in humans.

Several research have shown the critical role of endocannabinoids, through the endocannabinoid system (ECS), in maintaining skin homeostasis and barrier function, by relating ECS dysregulation with the appearance of various skin disorders.

CBD benefits

Preclinical and clinical evidence suggests that topical application of CBD may be effective in relieving pain, decreasing inflammation, and treating skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, acne, itching and age-related conditions.

Therefore, the cosmetic use of CBD helps to:

  • keep the skin supple, slow water evaporation and restore skin’s protective barrier, preventing the penetration of allergens and irritants.
  • slow or prevent the oxidation of other molecules, neutralizing the harmful effects of free radicals.
  • naturally regulate the sebaceous production of our skin.
  • reduce lipid peroxidation, acting as a natural regenerator and helping to improve skin texture.
